President Tebboune: Algerian diplomacy must show the world the image of the new Algeria

The President of the Republic Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers on 5 January 2020.

At the external level, the President of the Republic referred to the complex regional and international environment, which is today the scene of major geopolitical manoeuvres and the interweaving of factors of threat and instability.

In that context, he stressed the importance of drawing the main lessons, at the strategic level, in order to better anticipate the repercussions of the deterioration of the security situation in the region on our national security.

In this regard, the President of the Republic maintained that Algeria must in no way deviate from its duties of solidarity and good neighbourliness, which it will continue to promote through cooperation aimed at achieving regional complementarity in the best interests of all parties.

Algeria, which refuses any interference in the affairs of other countries, firmly opposes any attempt to interfere in its national affairs, principles which underpin its commitments to peace and security in our region, the Arab Maghreb, Africa and throughout the world, the Head of State added, who also reiterated Algeria's constant support for just causes, notably the Palestinian and the West Sahara causes.

In addition to strategic objectives, our foreign policy must now adapt to the country's new priorities, especially economic ones, by redeploying its potential through proven frameworks of competence and commitment.

Our diplomacy must show the world the image of the new Algeria, an Algeria that is confident in itself, in its capacities and in its future, an Algeria that is proud of its past and its achievements, and aware of the difficulties it faces and determined to overcome them. An Algeria committed to its principles and determined to regain its rightful place in the region and in the world, supported the Head of State.

On the other hand, the President of the Republic stressed the obligation for diplomatic action to place our community abroad at the heart of its concerns, by working to guarantee it the best protection enshrined in national laws and the legislations of host countries.

Stressing the need to respect these legislations, the Head of State advocated the search for appropriate mechanisms enabling our national community established abroad to contribute effectively to national development and the modernization of the national economy".
