UN General Assembly adopted, without voting, on Friday 11 December 2020 a resolution in which it supports the solution ensuring Western Sahara people's right to self-determination.

In this resolution, the General Assembly reaffirms its support for the negotiation process with a view to "reaching a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution that will allow Western Sahara people to exert their right to self-determination."

Reaffirming the "United Nations' responsibility to the people of Western Sahara," the UN General Assembly welcomes "the efforts made by the Secretary General and his former Personal Envoy to find a mutually acceptable political solution to the dispute and ensure the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara."

The General Assembly asks the United Nations Special Committee on the Situation with Regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, or the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24), to continue to monitor the situation in Western Sahara and submit a report on the issue at the 66th session of the Assembly.
It also invites the UN chief to present, at its sixty-sixteenth session, a report on this resolution.
The General Assembly recalled "the inalienable right of all peoples to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the principles set out in the Charter of the United Nations and in its resolution 1514 (XV) of 15 December 1960 and other resolutions adopted by it."
