Oran Mediterranean Games: President Tebboune chairs ceremony honoring medalist athletes
 
ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired Thursday at the Palace of People, Algiers, a ceremony in honor of Algerian athletes who won medals at the 2022 Mediterranean Games of Oran.
 
President Tebboune arrives shortly before in the Palace of People to honor the Algerian athletes who distinguished themselves during the 19th Mediterranean Games, held in Oran from 25 June to 6 July.
 
Upon his arrival at the Palace of People, he was welcomed by the State’s top officials.
 
Algeria finished fourth in these Games, with a harvest of 53 medals (20 gold, 17 silver and 16 bronze).
 
This ceremony, in honor of the Algerian athletes, is part of the policy of President Tebboune to promote and encourage the development of the national elite’s sport.  
The ceremony took place in the presence of Speaker of the Council of the Nation Salah Goudjil, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Brahim Boughali, Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Omar Belhadj, the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, General Said Chanegriha.
 
The ceremony was also attended by Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic Mohamed Amine Messaid, Principal Private Secretary at the Presidency of the Republic Abdelaziz Khellaf, advisers to the President of the Republic, members of the government as well as sport officials.
 
On this occasion, President of the Republic handed certificates of gratitude and a financial reward to medalist athletes.
 
The ceremony was also marked by the presence of karateka Ayoub Helassa who won the gold medal in the Karate-do event of the 11th World Games of Birmingham (USA) and who offered this distinction to the President of the Republic.   
 
The medalist athletes at the 2022 Mediterranean Games offered President Tebboune a jersey signed by all the athletes and printed “Algeria.”
 
President Tebboune took a family photo with all the athletes and the State’s top officials.
 
This ceremony, in honor of the Algerian athletes, is part of the policy of President Tebboune to promote and encourage the development of the national elite’s sport.  
 
Some medalists at the Oran Mediterranean Games 2022 were absent at the ceremony because they were held back by obligations like the athletes currently in Oregon (USA) to take part in the World Athletics Championships.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderezzak Sebgag said that the results achieved by Algerian athletes at the 19th Mediterranean Games (JM Oran-2022) "have exceeded the goals we set.”
Speaking at the ceremony held in honor of medal-winning athletes, honored by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the minister welcomed the results of these champions "who made the 19th Mediterranean epic in Oran 2022," offering Algeria 53 medals, including 20 gold, 16 silver, and 17 bronze, a record number of medals in the history of this competition.
The state "has fulfilled its commitments to the sports family by providing all the conditions necessary for elite athletes to excel. Our champions, in turn, have raised the flag of Algeria in the sky of Oran, contributing to the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Independence,” said the minister.
The results achieved by Algerian athletes "are a clear message to all detractors and defeatists both inside and outside the country, demonstrating that the new Algeria is on track, its contours begin to take shape and it will be built through the determination and will of its children,” affirmed Sebgag.   
He also congratulated the medal-winning athletes and all those who have contributed to their success.
The minister expressed the sports family’s “recognition and gratitude to the President of the Republic.”
