60th anniversary of independence: Touggourt, huge assets for promising economic development

 
 
TOUGGOURT- The province of Touggourt is steering towards a new era of promising development thanks to its natural resources to become an industrial hub in the independent and sovereign Algeria.
 
Being recently promoted as a province, coinciding with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of independence, Touggourt has natural resources that enable it to embark on a large development action in various sectors, notably industry.
 
These resources, making the region a future national industrial jewel, have been backed by support mechanisms recommended by the State in order to take advantage of basic infrastructures and enhance investment attractiveness.
 
The economic development experienced by the region has been achieved thanks to the 600 projects that have been approved, 57 of which were commissioned in building, manufacturing industry, food-processing industry and other fields.
 
Executed over an area of 948 hectares, these projects contributed to the creation of more than 1,620 jobs, according to the Directorate of Industry.
 
The support actions, from which project holders and young investors benefited, enabled the creation of several small and medium sized enterprises whose number reached 1572 this year.
 
The State spared no effort to support the region’s investors by initiating incentive measures and unfreezing important projects. The lifting of obstacles from 11 development projects helped strengthen the national and local industry.
 
This strategy focusing on the diversification of the national economy resulted in the lifting of obstacles from one of the most promising projects in the region, namely the steel complex of Temacine, which will enter into service as from next September, with a projected production of 200,000 tonnes per year of different steel products.
 
The local industrial base will also be strengthened with two other facilities, namely a new brickyard with a projected annual production of 200,000 tonnes and a plaster plant with a production capacity of 200 tonnes/day.
 
The food-processing industry is also growing in the region. A couscous production unit is being constructed at the level of the industrial and commercial complex of "Agrodiv” Group. This unit, budgeted at DZD800 million, will produce, once it is commissioned by the end of 2023, 288 quintals/day of couscous, and will help create 130 jobs. Its annual turnover is estimated at DZD411 million, affirmed the project’s managers.  
 
As part of the efforts aimed to extend economic actions and improve investment climate, huge efforts are undertaken by the local authorities, accompanied by the State’s strategy on the promotion of the national economy, to create new small business parks equipped with the necessary structures and facilities for the establishment of projects and startups.  
 
To ensure an effective revival of investments, the local authorities recovered an area of 42 hectares unexploited by its beneficiaries to make it available to other developers able to execute their projects and to give fresh impetus to investment in the region.  
            Newly promoted province fully takes-off
 
Touggourt, one of the ten major districts was promoted as a province with full prerogatives by decision of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, under the law relating to the territorial division of the country, intended to ensure a full take-off thanks to its potentials, in particular natural resources.
 
Many citizens said they are satisfied to see their region promoted as a province like the member of the " Bachayer  El-Ouloum and El -Marif " association of the sub-prefecture of 'El –Megarine, Soumaya Karboussa, who said that she hopes that development projects meeting the population’s expectations and likely to deal with their socio-economic concerns will be executed in this province.
 
In this regard, member of the Touggourt’s press body Nozha Tidjani, said that the 320-bed hospital is among the structuring projects strongly desired by the local population.
 
 
She called for the creation of a university pole which is possible as there are more than 300 university teachers in the province.
 
"The decision to promote Touggourt to the rank of a province will have a great impact on the living conditions of the local population," said Tidjani, stressing the importance of creating, at the level of the business area, a "Dry Port "which, according to her, will boost the local economic pace and will serve as a relay between the country’s northern and southern provinces.
 
For his part, member of the Region's Associative Movement, Lakhdar Souilem, said he is "very proud" of the deserved promotion of his region in view of  the great development capacities achieved in the past few years.
