Gara Djebilet Mine: Extraction of 1000 tonnes of iron ore
ALGIERS- The first iron ore quantity, estimated at 1000 tonnes, was extracted Tuesday from the mine of Gara Djebilet-West, in the province of Tindouf, and which became operational late July, the deputy director general of the National Iron and Steel Company (FERAAL), Redha Belhadj, told APS on Wednesday.
"We have managed to extract 1000 tonnes of iron ore yesterday, Tuesday," said Belhadj, adding that the next operations, to be carried out by Feraal, will target larger quantities.
"We may reach 20,000 to 25,000 tonnes next month, to attain nearly 100,000 tonnes per month by the end of the year."
During this experimental stage, "half of the extracted iron ore will be carried to the province of Oran (432-km west of Algiers), to be subsequently exported to China and Russia," Belhadj said.
