Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

Mangin calls for human rights monitoring by MINURSO in occupied Sahrawi territories
NEW YORK (United Nations)-French human rights activist Claude Mangin-Asfari, from the Association of Friends of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (AARSD), called before the 4th Commission of the UN General Assembly, in New York, for extending the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring for all Sahrawis living in the area occupied by Morocco.
Mangin-Asfari also stressed, before this Committee on Special Political and Decolonization, the necessity that Morocco implements international humanitarian law and technical visits by the High Council for Human Rights as well as visits to prisons, guarantees the application of the decisions of the Committee against torture until all Sahrawi political prisoners in arbitrary custody in Morocco are released.
The representative of AARASD mentioned the case of her husband Naama Asfari, a Sahrawi political prisoner in detention in Morocco for 12 years, after “unfair trials during which justice was manipulated.”

Arab Committee of Solidarity with Sahrawi People: No other alternative to Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

DAMASCUS- The Arab Committee of Solidarity with Sahrawi People reaffirmed that “there is no other alternative to the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.”

In a meeting held by its executive office via videoconference and chaired by its chairman Mahmoud Al-Saleh, the Committee reaffirmed that “there is no other alternative to the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, independence and freedom,” emphasizing the “necessity of respecting this right,” the Sahrawi news agency SPS said in Saturday.

The meeting discussed the action plan of the Arab Committee of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, by working on attracting more political personalities and Arab intellectuals.

The chairman of the executive office stressed the importance of coordinating the Committee’s legal team with a number of international organizations, in order to hold a series of meetings, “with a view to explaining the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and getting rid of the iniquitous Moroccan occupation, plunderer of this country’s natural resources since about half a century.”

Mahmoud Al-Saleh underlined the importance of the membership of the Committee to the international community “in order to achieve a greater efficiency in speeding up the implementation of the international resolution on the decolonization of Western Sahara,” calling on the world’s States in general and the Arab countries in particular, to support these people’s right to “issue a decision to implement the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and to free themselves from the occupation.”

The executive office decided to support the efforts of the UN Secretary General’s special envoy Staffan de Mistura in order to reach a crucial decision that obliges the Moroccan system to end its occupation of the Sahrawi territories  and reaffirmed the Arab Sahraiw people’s right to resistance against the occupation with all available means.
