National Emigration Day

Message of President of the Republic on National Emigration Day

ALGIERS-The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Monday wrote a message on the occasion of the National Emigration Day commemorating the 61st anniversary of the Massacres of 17 October 1961. This is APS translated version:
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
           Peace be Upon His Messenger
On this National Emigration Day commemorating the massacres of 17 October 1961, we recall the tragedies and odious crimes committed 60 years ago by an iniquitous colonizer against Algerian emigrants that affirmed that their emigration did not represent in any way a distancing from their homeland or the sufferings or hopes of their compatriots.
The Shouhada (martyrs) of this barbaric massacre joined the pioneers of freedom who sacrificed their lives to free themselves from the colonial yoke. They were continuously resistant to the colonial forces until the massacres of 8 May 1945. We will not forget the martyrs that devoted their lives to the glorious National Liberation War.
They have become a model of abnegation, devotion, and patriotism.
The commemoration of this event reflects our faithfulness to our glorious memory and willingness to meet the challenge of a promising economy and achieve sustainable development.
Our diaspora is involved in the process of establishing a state institution and the challenge of building a New Algeria.
The national community abroad is urged to contribute to this process, especially as the revision of the Constitution involves them in the momentum of socioeconomic development triggered in the New Algeria that relies on its children, inside and outside the country, a strong, prosperous and proud Algeria.

On this day when we commemorate a milestone in the history of our glorious Revolution, we remember the victims of that sinister day, and our valiant martyrs who have made the glory of the Nation and raised the banner of dignity and freedom in a country destined to remain great.
Long live free and sovereign Algeria
