World Food Day: Algeria made progress in food security
ALGIERS- The representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Algeria IrinaKouplevastskaya Buttoud affirmed that Algeria has made progress in achieving food security, despite the successive crises that affected the world.
Speaking on the sidelines of the celebration of the World Food Day in Algiers, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Sustainable Development, Buttoud affirmed that “despite the successive crises around the world, we can say that Algeria has made progress.
“Algeria has made remarkable efforts at the levels of the Presidency of the Republic, Government and of local producers that work hard to intensify and improve the quality of the production.”
A year after she took office as FAO’s representative in Algeria, Buttoud examined the big potentials Algeria possesses, namely the male and female workforce with an experience in the agricultural field and food-processing industries.
Established as a “model” in terms of strengthening local production, Algeria, which managed to deal with the effects of the pandemic crisis, is henceforth in a position to provide its assistance to improve the rate of food security and ensure a healthy diet in the world,” she stressed.
In this regard, she said that the Organization works to achieve the objective of ensuring access to healthy diet to everyone as part of the implemented strategy and the governmental initiatives, and yet the responsibility must be shared by disseminating a model of consumption without wasting.
She also called to benefit from the collective solidarity in this situation, and ensure the management of resources in a more efficient way.
