Algeria remains "committed" to principles of Non-Aligned Movement
ALGIERS-The President of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), Salah Goudjil highlighted Algeria's "commitment" to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, including unconditional support to liberation issues around the world and the right of peoples to freedom and self-determination, said Wednesday the Council in a statement.
Speaking at the Constitutive Assembly of the League of Senates, Advisory Councils and Similar Councils of the Muslim World, held in Bandung (Indonesia), read on his behalf by Salim Chenoufi, Vice-President of the Council of the Nation, Goudjil stressed "Algeria's commitment to the principles of the non-aligned movement, including unconditional support to liberation issues around the world and the right of peoples to freedom, dignity, and self-determination.”
Recalling the country's commitment to "equal sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of states," Goudjil underlined the need to "renew the pledge for the principles of the movement and activate its role in restoring the balance of international relations with new concepts, not those imposed by the policies of the Cold War.”
"The unstable international situation needs the voice of wisdom that represents the Non-Aligned Movement", a mechanism that "favors peace, dialogue, negotiated solutions and reconciliation as strategic options", said the Upper House speaker.
In the same vein, he recalled "the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s call for the launch of a collective reflection between the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement on the ways to enable the movement to play its role.
On this occasion, Goudjil welcomed the succession of meetings unifying the Arab and Muslim ranks, including the Palestinian reconciliation agreement, signed in Algeria under the supervision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, shortly before the Arab Summit scheduled for 1-2 November.
