Election of Djacta ICSC Chairman, overwhelming victory of Algeria over Morocco at UN
The elections took place Friday, November 4 at the plenary of the Fifth Committee. Algeria has beaten Morocco with a score of 121 to 64. This victory is the result of a tireless effort undertaken by the diplomatic staff at the last session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The re-election of Djacta as chairman of his committee is undoubtedly a recognition of his excellent work during his first term and confirms the return of Algerian diplomacy, led by the President of the Republic, Abdelmajid Tebboune, to the international scene.
ICSC is an independent expert body established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1974, responsible for maintaining high standards in the international civil service while balancing the needs and concerns of member states and key stakeholders.
It is the body par excellence that ensures that the entire UN system and the staff of the UN Secretariat carry out their duties and guarantee the exemplary functioning of the world organization.
This year's elections, which pitted the two candidates from Algeria and Morocco respectively, are of particular importance. It is, in fact, the second consecutive confrontation, after the one in November 2018, when Ambassador Djacta was elected in extremis by a difference of four votes, 97 votes against 93 for the same candidate from Morocco.
The overwhelming score this time, from simple to double, speaks for itself
