Algeria-Cuba, model of friendship and solidarity

ALGIERS-The relationship of friendship, solidarity, and mutual support between Algeria and Cuba “is a model,” said Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
"Cuba and Algeria are a model of friendship, solidarity, and mutual support since 1963, the year when Cuba sent a team of doctors to cooperate with the Algerian brotherly people,” said the Cuban president in a joint press statement with the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, after their talks at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.
Stressing that his visit, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, has a "great significance", the Cuban president recalled that his country was the first in Latin America to recognize the Algerian Republic.
There has been "a whole history of events, exchanges, and collaborations that have strengthened our ties,” he continued.
My visit to the Museum of the Mujaheed is an opportunity to pay tribute to the martyrs of the heroic Algerian people and to better understand its struggle and its resistance against colonialism, he said.
The Cuban Head of State stated that political relations between Algeria and his country were "excellent", saying that his meeting with President Tebboune has highlighted the convergence of views on international and regional issues of common interest.
"We agreed to boost economic, trade, and financial ties to bring them to the level of political relations," he said, stressing that the two countries are working to boost their cooperation in the areas of health, energy, renewable energy, agriculture, culture, education, science, and technology.
President Diaz-Canel Bermudez welcomed the rescheduling of the debt of Cuba to Algeria.
This is an "important support from Algeria to Cuba and a testimony of its understanding of the situation prevailing in my country," he said.
The Cuban president thanked the President of the Republic for "the warm welcome and the opportunity to discuss, directly and openly, aspects of the bilateral and international agenda.”
On behalf of the Cuban people and government, and his behalf, he offered the best wishes to President Tebboune on the occasion of his birthday.          
 
Cuban President laid wreath at Martyrs Memorial
ALGIERS- The president of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, on Thursday laid a wreath at the Martyrs Memorial in Algiers, and observed a minute silence in tribute to the martyrs of the glorious National Liberation War.
The Cuban president started Wednesday evening a working and friendship visit to Algeria.
He was welcomed upon his arrival in Houari-Boumediene international airport of Algiers by Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane, who was accompanied by the presence of the minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, and members of the government.
 
Algeria-Cuba: Historical and special relations with prospects for closer economic cooperation
ALGIERS- Algeria and Cuba have historical and special relations dating back to the common struggle of their peoples and their commitment to support just causes in the world, the quality of political relations and their human dimensions paving the way for a new stage of closer bilateral cooperation in all areas, mainly the economic field.
The working and friendship visit by President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez of Cuba to Algeria coincides with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the historical relations between the two countries, relations established before Algeria's independence, then strengthened through the support by both countries of just causes and people's struggles for their right to liberty, especially the Palestinian and Western Sahara issues, in addition to solidarity, cooperation and coordination of diplomatic positions in different international fora.
Fruitful and special, the bilateral relations have made many achievements, the latest of which was the creation of the Algeria-Cuba Friendship Parliamentary Group last February.
The installation of the group paved the way for a new era of bilateral cooperation and will contribute to enhancing exchanges in various fields, mainly parliamentary and economic.
In the economic fields, the two countries have huge assets allowing them to promote economic cooperation and trade.
The officials of two countries have assessed their capacities during the 22nd session of the joint intergovernmental commission for economic, trade, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation, held in February 2019.
 
Cuba’s President starts working, friendship visit to Algeria
ALGIERS- Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez started Wednesday evening a working and friendship visit to Algeria.
Cuban President was welcomed, upon his arrival at Algiers’ Houari Boumediene international airport, by Prime Minister Aimen Benabderrahmane, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra and members of the Government.
 
Official reception hosted by President Tebboune to Cuban counterpart
ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune gave on Thursday, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, an official reception to the President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez who is on a three-day working and friendship visit to Algeria.
After receiving a salute from a detachment of the Republican Guard, the two presidents listened to the two countries’ national anthems.
Shortly before, Cuban President laid a wreath at the Martyrs Memorial in Algiers, and observed a minute's silence in tribute to the martyrs of the glorious National Liberation War.
He also visited the National Mujaheed Museum where he received detailed explanations on the different phases of Algeria’s history, notably its struggle for the recovery of national sovereignty.
 
        
President Tebboune holds talks with Cuban counterpart
ALGIERS-President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune held talks Thursday with his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, who is on a working and friendship visit to Algeria.
Earlier, President Diaz-Canel Bermudez was given official welcome by President Tebboune at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.
The Cuban President laid a wreath at the Martyrs Memorial in Algiers and observed a minute silence in tribute to the martyrs of the glorious National Liberation War.
He also visited the National Mujaheed Museum where he received detailed explanations on the different stages of Algeria’s history, notably the struggle for the recovery of sovereignty.
 
President Tebboune holds extended talks with Cuban counterpart
ALGIERS-President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune held Thursday at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, extended talks with his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, who is on a working and friendship visit to Algeria.
The talks were attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, Chief of Staff at the Presidency of the Republic, Abdelaziz Khellaf, Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Finance Brahim Djamel Kassali, and Minister of Health Abdelhak Saihi, as well as members of the delegation accompanying the Cuban president.
On the sidelines of these meetings, the Ministers of Finance and Health held working sessions with their Cuban counterparts, during which they reviewed cooperation between the two countries in their respective fields.
 
Algeria donates solar power plant to Cuba, cancels interest on debt, says President Tebboune
  
ALGIERS-President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced Thursday in Algiers that Algeria decided to donate a solar power plant to Cuba and to cancel the interest on Cuba’s debt.
  
“Algeria has decided to alleviate the difficulties facing Cuba’s economy by canceling all interests on the country’s debt,” President Tebboune announced in a joint statement with his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, after their talks at the Presidency of the Republic.
  
“Algeria has also decided to donate a solar power plant to Cuba to supply the capital city Havana with electricity,” added President Tebboune.
  
“Algeria and Cuba are bound by historical relations which have been consolidated with the values of freedom, peace, and justice,” said President Tebboune, reaffirming “Algeria's permanent solidarity with the Cuban people.”
Economic blockade on Cuba: President Tebboune affirms Algeria's solidarity with Cuban people
ALGIERS-President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Thursday Algeria's permanent solidarity with the Cuban people under an economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed for over 60 years.
“Algeria and Cuba are bound by historical relations of friendship and solidarity, based on the values of freedom, peace, and justice that we share,” said President Tebboune in a joint statement with his Cuban counterpart at the end of their talks at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.
He reaffirmed “Algeria’s permanent solidarity with the Cuban people to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on their country for more than 60 years, driven by our commitment to the United Nations principles and the UN General Assembly resolution which calls for the lifting of this blockade.”
The President of the Republic also considered that the visit of his Cuban counterpart to Algeria was “an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and coordination, which have been interrupted between the two countries since 2019,” saying that he had “an in-depth discussion” with the Cuban President.
"Based on our sense of duty towards the Republic of Cuba, a brotherly and friendly country, with which we have had, in the past and present, relations that we will weave together in the future, Algeria has decided to alleviate the difficulties facing Cuba’s economy by canceling interest on Cuba’s debt to Algeria and the postponement of their payment,” explained President Tebboune.
Algeria has also decided “to donate a solar power plant to Cuba and to resume supplies of hydrocarbons so that the country restarts its power plants and power cuts stop,” added the president.
In addition, the President of the Republic said he agreed with his Cuban counterpart to “strengthen cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, create the required number of joint companies, produce vaccines and boost the exchange of experiences in the fields of higher education, youth, and trade.”
In the same context, he said that the official Algerian delegation, which will take part in the meeting of the Joint Commission in Havana scheduled for the beginning of 2023, “will be accompanied by about 150 Algerian investors in order to discuss investment opportunities in Cuba.”
At the end of his speech, President Tebboune sent a message of support and encouragement to the Cuban people and particularly to young people to “take up the torch.”
He also offered his heartfelt greetings, on his behalf and on behalf of the Algerian people, to the former President of Cuba, Raul Castro.
President of Cuba visits great mosque of Algiers
ALGIERS- President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez of Cuba paid Friday a visit to Djamaa El-Djazair, the great mosque of Algiers, as part of his working and friendship visit to Algeria.
The Cuban president was accompanied by the minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, the minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji, and the rector of Djamaa El-Djazair mosque, Cheikh Mohamed Maamun Al Kasimi Al Hoseini, who welcomed him at the entrance of the mosque.
President Diaz-Canel Bermudez contemplated the religious, cultural and scientific building and listened to the information on the managers of the mosque, the largest in Africa and the world's third largest after Al-Haram Mosque in Makkah and Al-Nabawi Mosque in Madinah.
The Cuban leader expressed admiration for the mosque, distinguished worldwide by its minaret, the highest in the world, and its worship hall that can accommodate up to 120,000 people.
President Diaz-Canel Bermudez arrived in Algeria on Wednesday for a three-day working and friendship visit to Algeria.
