Need to protect Emir Abdelkader's achievements to preserve national memory
ALGIERS- The minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Laïd Rebiga on Saturday emphasized the need to protect the achievements of Emir Abdelkader and the other heroes of his calibre, to preserve the national memory and convey their message to the future generations.
Chairing a conference on the allegiance to Emir Abdelkader, the minister said "it is our duty today to focus on the protection of the achievements of Emir Abdelkader El Djazairi and the other Algerian heroes of his calibre, to preserve their memory and convey their message to the future generations."
Rebiga stressed the necessity to "pay tribute to their memory on every occasion and to make known their achievements through in-depth academic studies and great works."
Mentioning the initiative of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid
Tebboune on the production of a great film on Emir Abdelkader, the minister of Mujahideen said the project was part of the president's "interest in issues relating to our glorious national memory."
Citing some of the achievements of the founder of the Algerian modern State, the minister said activists and mujahideen, during the glorious national liberation war, "have embraced his principles and followed his path, which was filled with sacrifices."
The Emir's path allowed them to "set free from oppression and tyranny and to recover the national sovereignty."
Emir Abdelkader was "a leader jihad and resistance, a symbol of thought and culture, and a pole of Sufism and knowledge."
The opportunity of the conference hosted by the National Centre for Studies and Research on National Movement and the Revolution of 1 November 1954, coinciding with the commemoration of the 190th anniversary of the allegiance to
Emir Abdelkader, was seized to pay tribute to the late mujaheed and historian Yahia Bouazi and to the representative of the Emir Abdelkader Foundation, Zhour Boutaleb.
