Palestine's UN membership: Arab Parliament welcomes formation of Algeria-chaired ministerial commission

CAIRO (Egypt)- The Arab Parliament welcomed the formation of an Arab ministerial commission chaired by Algeria for the international recognition of the State of Palestine and its adherence to the United Nations (UN) as a full member.
The position was expressed at the closing session of the third legislative chapter of the Arab Parliament, during which the participants adopted the draft resolution of the Palestine Commission (on the development of the cause and the situation in the occupied territories), in favour of Palestine's full membership of the United Nations, in line with UN's support for the Palestinians' right to self-determination.
The Arab Parliament also welcomed the decision of the 31st Arab Summit in Algiers "setting executive mechanisms for the protection of Al Quds (Jerusalem)," calling on Arab countries to express support for Al-Quds, given that it is a "joint Arab and Muslim responsibility."
The Arab Parliament praised the Arab efforts to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation, commending Algeria's role under the leadership of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and which resulted in the signing of the "Declaration of Algiers."
The Pan-Arab institution urged the Palestinian factions to work for the unification of the people and independence, and against division and disagreement.
The Arab Parliament called for a support to the Palestinian approach presented by President Mahmoud Abbas to the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
The approach is based on the organization of an international conference on peace, under the aegis of the United Nations with the participation of the Quartet and other influential Arab countries.
