Algerian musical genre “Rai” listed by UNESCO cultural heritage of humanity

 
RABAT- United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced Thursday, in Rabat, that the Algerian popular musical genre “Rai” has been included in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
The decision to list Rai by UNESCO was taken during the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Rabat until 3 December.
In addition to Rai, nine elements of its heritage have been listed by the UNESCO, namely Ahellil of Gourara, the wedding dress of Tlemcen ''Chedda", the Rakb of Sidi Abd El Kader Ben Mohamed called "Sidi Cheikh", the ceremony of Sebeïba, the Sbua, in celebration of Mawlid Ennabaoui in the Gourara, and international files which are Imzad, couscous and the Arabic calligraphy.
