46th EUCOCO: Pierre Galand calls for respect of African, European Court rulings on Western Sahara

BERLIN (Germany)-President of the European Coordination Conference of Support and Solidarity with Western Sahara People (EUCOCO), Pierre Galand called from Berlin for the respect of international law and the decisions of the African and European Courts regarding Western Sahara.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 46th EUCOCO conference which wrapped up on Saturday in the German capital, Galand stressed that the shared ambition of the solidarity movement with the Sahrawi people he leads was to “live together in security and cooperation.”
“Let's respect international law, let's respect the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which state that Western Sahara is a separate and distinct territory from Morocco,” said Galand, stressing that Western Sahara has a people and a representative (the Polisario Front).
The Sahrawis must have their land and resources back.
“Let us also respect the latest ruling of the African Court of Human and Peoples' Rights, on the need to find a permanent solution to the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara,” he added.
The president of EUCOCO praised “the spirit of solidarity of the Algerians known throughout history and which is focused today on the Saharawi people and their basic rights.”

46th EUCOCO: Algerian parliamentary delegation calls for decolonization of Western Sahara
BERLIN- The Algerian parliamentary delegation participating in the 46th conference of the European Coordination for the Support and Solidarity with the Saharawi People (EUCOCO) called Saturday in Berlin for continued efforts for the decolonization of Western Sahara, which requires the right of Saharawi people to self-determination.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Algerian parliamentary delegation to this conference, the member of the Council of the Nation Hamza Al-Sid Sheikh said that "decolonization in Africa requires the exercise by the Sahrawi people of their right to self-determination, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions," recalling that "Algeria under the leadership of President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and faithful to its constant principles and its firm convictions in favor of the right of peoples to self-determination, supports the Sahrawi people in their struggle as it did with many African countries in the recovery of their sovereignty and freedom."
The senator stressed "the importance and necessity of continuing international and continental efforts for the completion of the decolonization process in Western Sahara," saying that "the status quo threatens peace and stability in the region.

"The issue of Western Sahara remains a decolonization issue," he said, calling for "urgent action to complete the decolonization process of the last colony in Africa and end the suffering endured by the Sahrawi people for 44 years.
