Lamamra holds talks with Nigerian counterpart
ORAN-Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra held talks on Wednesday, in Oran, with his counterpart of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Geoffrey Onyeama, whose country holds the rotating chairmanship of the African Union Peace and Security Council, said the ministry in a statement.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 9th High-Level Conference on Peace and Security in Africa, allowed the two parties to discuss the issues on the agenda of the conference.
According to the source, the two ministers expressed their contentment with the great progress made in the Oran process to enable the 3A group to contribute effectively to decision-making within the UN Security Council.
The two ministers welcomed the qualitative dynamics of the existing cooperation and partnership relations between Algeria and Nigeria, especially in the field of the realization of structuring projects, as they agreed on the next bilateral deadlines, added the statement.
In a statement to the press at the end of the meeting, Onyeama described the Oran process as “an excellent step.”
“It provides an opportunity for members of the African Peace and Security Council to discuss the most important issues for achieving peace on the continent,” he added.
He also said that African countries have great respect for Algeria given its major role during decisive stages of the continent's history, such as the period of struggle against colonialism, “which gives Algeria a mediating role.”
