Lamamra highlight importance of boosting joint African action against terrorism
ORAN (Algeria)- The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, on Thursday emphasized the importance of boosting joint African action in the face of terrorism at all international fora.During a session themed "African Response to Emerging Threats for Peace and Security on the Continent: Fighting Terrorism and Violent Extremism in Africa," as part of the second day of the ninth High-Level Conference on Peace and Security in Africa, held in Oran (432-km west of Algiers), the minister stressed the need to strengthen joint African action in the fight against terrorism, which has become an "existential threat to the continent."
Lamamra said there was an African consensus on the concept of terrorism as an "existential threat to the continent's security, development efforts and the social fabric of its countries."
He added that "Africa has a leading experience in the fight against terrorism and much work can still be done in the field."
The minister said counterterrorism is a key issue that can make a difference in the global agenda for the fight against terrorism, expressing his belief that "African achievements in the field are clear."
