Algeria is real investment destination, state determined to protect investors

WASHINGTON-Speaking a meeting with US businessmen Tuesday in Washington, Prime Minister Aimene Benabderrahmane said that Algeria had become today "a real investment destination", reiterating the determination of the state to "protect investors and meet all conditions for the success of investments.”
"Algeria has become a real destination for investment through the reforms carried out by the Government," said Benabderrahmane on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the first day of the United States-Africa Leaders Summit.
He highlighted the new legal and organizational framework that enshrines "important principles, in particular the freedom to invest, and gives everyone the total freedom of choice of investment in the context of transparency and equality in the treatment of investments.”
The new legal framework creates a High National Commission of appeals related to the investment to the Presidency of the Republic, which reflects "the determination of the state to protect the investor and to meet all the conditions for successful investment," he continued.
On this occasion, the PM welcomed this "important" meeting which reflects "the common will of both parties, Algerian and American, to promote the bilateral partnership and develop cooperation in various fields.”
These meetings "are part of the implementation of the guidelines of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to boost relations and cooperation with Algeria's partners, especially the United States of America, with which Algeria shares a common political will to boost business ties,” he stated.
Algeria "seeks to take advantage of all opportunities for integration between the economies of the two countries to increase the volume of investment on the basis of the win-win principle, and diversify trade," he stated.
This meeting comes at a time marked by "a great momentum that characterizes bilateral relations, including the organization of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially the 7th session of the Algeria-US Governmental Council on Trade and Investment, whose results and important recommendations must be implemented according to a specific schedule,” stressed the PM.
Algeria "is the 3rd trading partner of the United States in Africa, especially since the volume of trade between the two countries amounted to $US3.1 billion during the first nine (9) months of 2022, i.e. a significant hike compared to the previous year.
Regarding investment, the Prime Minister stressed that the U.S. presence on the Algerian market "remains below the potential of both countries and investment opportunities offered by the Algerian market.”
Over the past twenty (20) years, U.S. investments are at the bottom of the ranking in terms of value and number of projects, and the number of jobs created, said Benabderrahmane.
As such, the Prime Minister referred to the various incentives and benefits offered by the investment climate in Algeria such as reduced costs of production and energy and skilled labor, in addition to the basic infrastructure of multimodal transport.
