2022: Algeria has strengthened presence within international organizations, continental authorities

 
ALGIERS-The intense diplomatic activity that Algeria has experienced since President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune took office enabled it to strengthen its presence in 2022 within the most important regional and international organizations and continental authorities, constituting an acknowledgement by the international community of its eminent role as a power acting for the establishment of security and stability in the world, and also the strengthening of human rights.
In this regard, Algeria was elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2023-2025, in recognition of its pivotal role in its region, keen to promote the human rights principles and values in the world.
Algeria’s accession to the Human Rights Council as from 1 January 2023 for the 3rd time since the creation of this body in 2006, will enable it not only to work for the promotion of protection of human rights throughout the world, but also to confirm its rightful place among nations.
The Algerian candidate, ambassador Larbi Djacta, was also re-elected as chairman of the United Nations International Civil Service Commission (UN ICSC) after obtaining 121 points against 64 for the Moroccan candidate El Hassane Zahid.
Algeria’s was also elected by acclamation for a period of four years, as from 1 January 2023, at the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations and the Commission on Science and Technology for Development of the United Nations
Through its permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Salima Abdelhak, Algeria was elected as vice-president of the 27th Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Weapon Convention, held in The Hague from 28 November to 2 December 2022.
 
Algeria was elected in 2022 member of the Board of Directors of the International Telecommunication Union.
At the regional and continental levels, and at the proposal of President of the Republic, Algeria’s candidate Dr. Cherif Rahmani was unanimously elected as a member of the Panel of Eminent Persons of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).
For his part, member of the Council of the Nation Abdelmadjid Azzedine was elected chairman of the Geopolitical Group of North Africa in the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), while senator Abdelkrim Koreichi was elected by plebiscite president of the Committee on Political and Foreign Affairs and National Security at the Arab Parliament.
Algeria was also unanimously elected to chair the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) for the years 2023 and 2024.
This election came in recognition of Algeria’s efforts to fight against the migratory locusts.
In the same vein, Secretary General of the People’s National Assembly Azzedine Khennouf was elected as a member of the executive committee of the Association of Secretaries of Arab Parliaments.
After succeeding, thanks to its effective diplomacy, in being an active element within the international community, Algeria is today advancing resolutely and confidently towards the strengthening of its influence and working to obtain the quality of non-permanent member at the United Nations Security Council and to join BRICS thanks to its political and economic achievements made since President Tebboune took office. 
Algeria presented in 2022 its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for 2024-2025 in elections that will be held as part of the 77th UN General Assembly in June 2023, and leads a campaign based on the directives of President Tebboune related to the foreign policy, as well as the main phases of the history of the Algerian diplomacy.
