Merad affirms President Tebboune’s will to enshrine local governance

ALGIERS-The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad said affirmed the willingness of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune to enshrine the balanced local governance that would allow the municipality to play an effective and vital role in achieving local development.
In a message on the occasion of the celebration of the "National Day of the Commune", coinciding with January 18 each year, the Minister said that President Tebboune "decided to open a workshop to amend the code on municipality adapt it to current issues by enshrining the balanced and rational local governance and so that the municipality plays an effective and vital role in achieving comprehensive, equitable and sustainable development.
He stressed that the opening of the workshop to amend the code of municipality comes in the context of the program of President Tebboune to "revive state institutions in accordance with the principles of the new Algeria and the aspirations of its children.”
Merad called on governors to "work together to make more achievements," urging them to "redouble efforts and move forward in improving services provided to citizens and accelerate the pace of implementation of the ambitious development program in a new era based on work, innovation, and development.”
The National Day of the Commune, coinciding with the promulgation of the first Algerian code of municipality in 1967, was established by a presidential decree issued in 2019.
