Attempts to smuggle eight quintals of cannabis into Algeria through Morocco border foiled

 
ALGIERS- Various attempts to smuggle 8.33 quintals of cannabis into Algeria through the border with Morocco have been foiled while 48 drug traffickers have been arrested in separate operations carried out by
Combined Army detachments, over the period of January 18-24, the ministry of National Defense said in an operational report Wednesday.
As part of the fight against terrorism and organized crime, "units and detachments of the People's National Army carried out, during the period of 18-24 January 2023, a number of operations that led to quality results showing the professionalism, vigilance and permanent availability of our armed forces throughout the national territory," the report said.
In counterterrorism, combined Army detachments "arrested 11 terrorist supporters in separate operations through the national territory," the statement added.
In the fight against organized crime, combined detachments of the People's National Army "arrested, in coordination with different security services, in operations carried out across various military regions, 48 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle large quantities of cannabis from the border with Morocco, amounting to eight quintals and 33 kilogrammes of cannabis, while 350 grammes of cocaine and 716,914 psychotropic tablets have been seized."
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In-Guezzam, Djanet and Tindouf, Army detachments "intercepted 184 individuals and seized 20 vehicles, 150 power generating sets, 78 jackhammers and five metal detectors."
The Army also intercepted "quantities of explosives, detonation devices and equipment used in illegal mining and arrested 15 other individuals."
The detachments of the People's National Army "seized, in separate operations through the country, six hunting rifles, large quantities of food meant for smuggling, amounting to 166.35 tonnes, 18.15 quintals of tobacco and 17,377 units of various drinks."
