Lamamra receives speaker of Andean Parliament
ALGIERS- The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, received Tuesday, in Algiers, the speaker of the Andean Parliament, Gloria Flores Schneider, who is on a visit to Algeria to participate, as a guest, in the 17th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States conference (PIUC), the ministry said in a statement.
"The discussions focused on the historical relations of solidarity and cooperation between Africa and Latin America and the promising prospects for their enhancement based on the shared values of the countries and peoples of the two continents," the statement said.
The two sides stressed the "the common struggles for emancipation from the colonial yoke, shown today in their unconditional support to the just causes of Palestinian and Western Sahara peoples."
They also underlined their "common desire to promote the principles of non-alignment for a peaceful and fair world," the statement said.
Following the discussions with Ramtane Lamamra, Schneider told reporters that "the Andean Parliament has great confidence in Algeria in relation to the support for just causes and peoples fighting for their independence."
She recalled that "Algeria had supported Colombia during the civil war" in this Latin American country.
"Algeria's position alongside Colombia is one of the reasons for which Colombia supports Algeria in all its positions."
