Goudjil receives President of Pan-African Parliament

ALGIERS-The Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), Salah Goudjil received Saturday in Algiers the President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Chief Fortune Charumbia with whom he discussed several issues of common interest, said the Council in a statement.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss "issues of interest to the African continent and solutions to achieve its aspirations," including "the political will of African leaders and their conviction that geostrategic changes dictated by the international system in place, which is experiencing a conflict between major international forces, now require the combined efforts of all children of the continent," said the source.
In this regard, Goudjil reaffirmed that the foundations of Algerian diplomacy were based on "respect for the sovereignty of States and the rejection of interference in the internal affairs of countries," "support for the rights of peoples to self-determination and decolonization efforts in Africa and the world in accordance with the principles of international legality and UN resolutions, like Western Sahara, which is now dependent on the agendas of international forces that continue to delay the implementation of UN decisions relating thereto.”
Moreover, Goudjil underlined "the importance of supporting the independence of the African political decision" through "the independence of economic sovereignty, while adopting a new concept of the principle of non-aligned, far from its concept during the Cold War.”
Goudjil referred to the approach called by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune to "revive the mechanisms of cooperation between African countries for optimal exploitation of their human and material resources, in the best interests and aspirations of their peoples to prosperity and growth.”
For his part, the President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) expressed his will to "establish mechanisms of cooperation and exchange with African centers of research and specialized studies, and work to expand the scope of consultations to establish participatory approaches to the service of people in Africa, strengthen its immunity and preserve its place away from conflicts of interest of major powers.
Both officials stressed the need to “revive the mechanisms of action of the PAP, and the importance of strengthening its capacity so that it fulfills its missions in the service of the peoples of the continent.”
The President of PAP is on an official visit to Algeria from January 28 to February 5, leading a large delegation.
