Earthquake in Turkey, Syria: WHO commends Algerian Civil protection efforts in rescue operations

ALGIERS- The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Sunday praised the efforts made by the Algerian Civil Protection teams in the search and rescue operations following the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, Civil Protection services said.
Accompanied by the Syrian minister of Health, Hassan Al-Ghabach, the director general of the WHO went to "Bustan Al-Qasr" (Aleppo Governorate) to inquire about the latest developments, and where he met Algerian Civil Protection officers and received information, from the commander of the research and rescue group, Captain Tigrine Hichem, on the work of the Algerian teams in Syria since January 6th.
Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the efforts of the Algerian Civil Protection teams, who have managed to pull 35 victims from the rubble so far in Aleppo Governorate, in the districts of "Bustan Al-Qasr" and "Al-Salihin," of them alive.
The teams of the Algerian Civil Protection sent to Syria by Algeria to help in the research and rescue operations have managed, from January 6th to February 12th (midday) to rescue 13 people and pull 118 dead bodies from the rubble.
 
Syria earthquake: Aleppo’s Governor commends efforts of Algerian Civil Protection
 
ALGIERS- The Governor of Aleppo City commended on Monday, in a visit paid to the team of the Algerian Civil Protection, sent to Syria following the earthquake which hit this country, the efforts made in the search and rescue operations, the Civil Protection said in a statement.
“At the end of the search and rescue mission of the team of the Algerian Civil Protection in Syria, the Governor of Aleppo met with Lieutenant Colonel Bouchrifi Nacer and the group’s leader Captain Tighrine Hicham in the Governorate of Aleppo and gave them the “Shield of Aleppo Governorate” in recognition of the efforts made by the team, said the statement. 
Algeria’s ambassador to Syria Lahcen Touhami accompanied the Algerian delegation to the international airport of Aleppo, hailing the efforts made in the rescue operations, said the source. 
The rescue units of the Algerian Civil Protection were able to locate and find the victims stuck in the rubble, thanks to detection electronic devices which enabled the teams on the ground to hear the different voices. 
The teams of the Civil Protection sent to Turkey and Syria by Algeria to participate in the search and rescue operations managed, from 6 to 13 February, to rescue 13 people and to pull 92 bodies from the rubble. 
The search and rescue operations continued in Turkey while they stopped in Syria where a person was rescued and 34 bodies were pulled.
 
Merad hails great work done by Civil Protection team in Syria
 
ALGIERS- Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Brahim Merad hailed on Monday the honorable results and the huge work done by the team of the Civil Protection sent to Syria to participate in the search and rescue operations in the regions affected by the devastating earthquake which hit this brotherly country last week.
 Merad extended to the 86 elements of the Civil Protection, welcomed at the air base of Boufarik (Blida) in the presence of Director General of the Civil Protection Colonel Boualem Boughlaf and President of the Algerian Red Crescent (CRA) Ibtissem Hamlaoui,” the congratulations of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and of Prime Minister Aimene Benabderrahmane as well as all the members of the governmental staff for the huge work and humanitarian action during their delicate mission in brotherly country Syria.”
 “You raise high the national flag and honored Algeria in the delicate mission you carried out in difficult circumstances. You have the honors and gratitude of all people for your great efforts and efficiency on the ground,” the minister told the elements of the Civil Protection.
 “The President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune instructed me to transmit his heartfelt greetings for your efforts, just like all the Algerians, especially as you worked in very difficult circumstances, notably the climate conditions unfavorable to your mission,” he added.
The minister underlined that “the President of the Republic followed closely all your exceptional interventions and your unequal efforts in these circumstances.”
