EU position on Sahrawi issue "unchanged”

 
BRUSSELS-The European Commission reaffirmed that the position of the European Union (EU) on the conflict in Western Sahara is "known and remains unchanged", underlining its support for the efforts of the United Nations (UN) to achieve "a just political solution", in accordance with the Security Council resolutions.
In a response on behalf of the European Commission, its Vice-President and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that "developments in Western Sahara are followed by the European External Action Service (EEAS) and no change in the organizational chart is planned. The EU's position on the Western Sahara issue is well known and remains unchanged".
Borrell reiterated in the same vein "the EU's strong support for the efforts of the United Nations, its Secretary General and his personal envoy, Staffan de Mistura, to continue the political process to achieve a fair, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council.”
The official also said that the EU "is in regular contact with the UN envoy and seeks support his efforts to revive the negotiation process (between the Polisario Front and Morocco).”
 
Western Sahara women brave all dangers in sharpest conditions
 
CHAHID EL-HAFEDH (Sahrawi Refugee Camps)- The president of the Republic and secretary general of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, said Western Sahara women had braved all dangers and met all challenges in the harshest conditions since they joined the struggle for liberty, under the banner of the Polisario Popular Front.
"On this day, where women worldwide celebrate their international day, we pay tribute to the fighting, brave and heroic Sahrawi women who have created a glorious history of struggle, resistance and self-sacrifice unparalleled in the world," President Ghali said in a message to Saharawi women marking the Women's International Day, the Sahrawi news agency SPS reported.
"We pay tribute today to the Saharawi women who fell martyrs and those who have been kidnapped, jailed or still missing, to the victims of suppression, torture and abduction, to the resistant women, and to the courageous women living in exile, who are firmly determined to continue their resistance and struggle until the final victory."
The president added that Saharawi women who "have imposed themselves in the Saharawi Revolution and in the liberation and construction process, alongside their brothers in the fight for liberty and dignity."
