Uganda’s President begins state visit to Algeria

 
ALGIERS-The President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni arrived Saturday in Algeria, as part of a state visit that will last until Tuesday, March 14, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Museveni was welcomed upon his arrival at Algiers Houari-Boumediene International Airport by President Tebboune, accompanied by the Speakers of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), Salah Goudjil and the People's National Assembly (Lower House), Ibrahim Boughali, the Prime Minister, Aimene Benabderrahmane, the Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, General Said Chanegriha, and members of the Government.
Presidents Tebboune and Museveni listened to the national anthems of the two countries before saluting detachments of the various forces of the People's National Army, which have paid them honors. The shots rang out in honor of the guest.
The two Presidents also greeted the delegations of both countries, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Algeria.
 
President Tebboune holds discussions with Ugandan counterpart
ALGIERS- The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Saturday held discussions, in Algiers, with President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, who is on a state visit to Algeria until Tuesday.
The discussions took place in the presidential VIP lounge at Houari-Boumediene international airport, in the presence of senior officials from both countries.
Earlier, President Museveni was welcomed upon his arrival by President Tebboune, accompanied by the speakers of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament), Salah Goudjil, and the People's National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane, the chief of the General Staff of the People's National Army, General Saïd Chanegriha, and the members of the government.
Presidents Tebboune and Museveni listened to the national anthems of the two countries before reviewing detachment of the different forces of the People's National Army, while cannon shots were fired in honour of the guest."
The two presidents greeted the delegations of the two countries and the representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Algeria.
 
Algeria-Uganda talks on several sectors
 
ALGIERS-Algeria-Uganda bilateral discussions on several sectors of cooperation were held on Sunday at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, on the sidelines of the state visit of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to Algeria.
The talks focused on the sectors of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Energy, Trade, Industry and Higher Education.
The Ugandan President arrived Saturday in Algiers as part of a state visit that will last until next Tuesday, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
 
President of the Republic: Algeria to host small NAM meeting next summer
ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune said Sunday that Algeria would host, next summer, a small meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
In a joint news conference held with his Ugandan's counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, who is on a state visit to Algeria, the president of the Republic said Algeria would host, next summer, a small meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
With regard to bilateral relations between Algeria and Uganda, the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said the discussions he had with President Museveni was an opportunity to discuss "several issues of common interest, especially coordination of positions in support of just causes in international fora, on the top of which the Palestinian and Western Sahara causes."
In the economic field, President Tebboune said that "150 Algerian businessmen would go to Uganda's capital, Kampala, to examine partnership opportunities with their Ugandan counterparts."
 
Algeria-Uganda: President Museveni visits Algiers Nuclear Research Center
 
ALGIERS-The President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni visited Monday the Nuclear Research Center of Algiers, on the third day of his state visit to Algeria.
President Museveni was accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab.
 Convergence of views between Algeria, Uganda about issues of common interest
ALGIERS-The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Sunday expressed his satisfaction with the convergence of views between Algeria and Uganda on issues of common interest.
Speaking after the signing ceremony of two agreements and five memoranda of understanding (MoU) on various bilateral cooperation fields, which he chaired with his Ugandan counterpart, the President of the Republic expressed “his satisfaction with the convergence of analysis and views on issues that have been the subject of consultation and the fruitful outcomes of President Museveni’s visit to Algeria.” 
“This visit has also enhanced the relations of brotherhood and solidarity between the two countries, marked by regular bilateral consultation”, said the president of the Republic. 
Moreover, “he also emphasized Algeria’s will to boost relations with Uganda and the African nation, which is a strategic orientation,” stressing that President Museveni’s visit “is an opportunity to boost bilateral ties.”
Algeria is ready to share its experience with Uganda in the fields of energy, tourism, food processing, higher education, and scientific research, hailing the recent oil discoveries in this country and their contribution to the development of energy partnership, he continued.
On this occasion, the head of State underlined the importance of the second joint committee meeting “as it is an opportunity to enrich the legal framework of cooperation,” expressing the wish that the “meeting would be scheduled soon” to activate the Algeria-Uganda Business Council.
“150 Algerian businessmen will visit Kampala after the month of Ramadan to hold talks with their Ugandan counterparts on the ways to engage in investments, hence the need to activate the Algeria-Uganda Business Council to allow both countries’ businessmen to seize opportunities to boost economic and trade relations,” said President Tebboune.
As part of African integration, Algeria had launched structuring projects like the Trans-Saharan Road, the Algeria-Nigeria Gas Pipeline, and the Trans-Sahara Optic Fibre Backbone Project, said President Tebboune, stressing that “Algeria seeks to support Uganda and the brotherly countries to achieve economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).” 
Based on its conviction that security and stability are tightly linked to development, Algeria “has not hesitated to provide technical and logistical assistance to some African countries, and development programs,” stressed President Tebboune, who recalled the allocation of US$1 billion to “express solidarity with brotherly African countries.”
The President of the Republic said that the consultation between Algeria and Uganda to coordinate positions during regional and international events "is satisfactory", stressing "the absolute support of Algeria to Uganda in its preparations for the 19th Summit of the Conference of Non-Aligned Countries, scheduled for the end of the current year in Kampala, and the Group of 77 + China.”
President Tebboune welcomed the support of Uganda to the initiative of Algeria to host a small meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) next summer, before the Summit scheduled in Kampala.
In addition, the President of the Republic expressed his consideration for the inalienable position of Uganda "supporting the decolonization process in Western Sahara and the defense of the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state.”
President Tebboune invited, in this sense, the Africans to "redouble collective efforts and provide more political and financial support for the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples," calling on the international community to "assume its historical responsibilities" to enable the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.
After recalling, the impact of the various crises in the African continent, which have resulted in a precarious economic situation and internal conflicts, President Tebboune stressed "the role of Algeria in peace and stability, especially in the Sahel region.”
Algeria, as chair of the Monitoring Committee of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali, considers that the agreement, signed in 2015, "is an appropriate framework for a lasting resolution of the crisis that this brotherly country is going through," continued the Head of State.
The President of the Republic also welcomed the contribution of Uganda "to the mediation to address the multidimensional crisis in the eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
 
Algeria, reliable partner to Uganda
ALGIERS-The President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni said Sunday that Algeria was a “reliable partner” to his country, stressing “his positive contribution” to the development and integration of Africa.
“I had fruitful talks,” President Museveni told the press after he met with the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, saying that Algeria is a "reliable partner" to Uganda.
After the talks, the two sides sealed agreements and memoranda of understanding.
"We discussed several areas of cooperation, including the fight against terrorism, knowing that Algeria has extensive experience in this area," said Museveni, noting the importance of the factor of peace for the effective development of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).
In this sense, the Ugandan President welcomed the "positive contribution" of Algeria to the development of the FTAA through the launch of structural projects to enable the integration of Africa and strengthen trade on the continent.
Regarding bilateral cooperation, he referred to the field of petrochemicals and hydrocarbons, in which the two countries "can launch joint projects, including refineries in Uganda where oil deposits have been discovered.”
 
President Museveni highlights Algeria's role in Africa's economic liberation
ALGIERS- President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda on Monday, in Algiers, emphasized Algeria's potentials and greatest assets for the "economic liberation" of Africa through the strengthening of inter-African cooperation, as well as its contribution to African countries' freedom from the colonial rule in the past.
President Museveveni, who is on a four-day visit to Algeria, told reporters that he was happy to be in Algeria, stressing that "by working with eastern Africa , including Uganda, Algeria can create a very strong group that would contribute to economic development, as it had contributed to the African struggle against colonialism in the past."
Highlighting the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in freeing the continent from economic dependence, the Ugandan president stressed the need to strengthen bilateral trade relations between African States, such as the relations between Algeria and Uganda.
President Museveni also underlined the necessity to support development and progress in Africa, through the complementarity of the African market and a support to African wealth creators, with the creation of a large market.
 
Uganda's President receives Algerian Economic Revival Council delegation
 
ALGIERS- President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda received Monday, in his residency in Algiers, a delegation of the Algerian Economic Revival Council, led by its president, Kamel Moula.
The delegation of the Algerian Economic Revival Council is made up of Omar Habes, Reda Hachelaf, Abdelwahed Kerrar, Lazhar Latreche, Mohamed Lamine Lebbou and Hassan Khelifati.
 President Museveni arrived in Algeria on Saturday for a four-day State visit, at the invitation of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
  
Sonatrach, Uganda's National Oil Company sign MOA 
ALGIERS- The group Sonatrach and Uganda's National Oil Company has signed, in Algiers, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the assessment of cooperation opportunities in hydrocarbons, Sonatrach said Monday in a statement.
The signing ceremony took place Sunday, under the chairmanship of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, who is on a State visit to Algeria, the statement said.
Signed by the CEO of Sonatrach, Toufik Hakkar, and the director general of Uganda's National Oil Company, Proskovia Nabanga, the memorandum of agreement is intended for "joint assessment of cooperation opportunities across the entire value chain of oil and gas."
"The MOA covers many areas of cooperation related to exploration & production, commercialization, processing and downstream activities," the statement said.
It also includes "aspects relating to oil and gas services, the development of training and exchange of expertise."
