Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrates 61st anniversary of Victory Day
ALGIERS-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad held Sunday a ceremony under the celebration of the 61st anniversary of Victory Day, chaired by Minister Ahmed Attaf, in the presence of executives and staff of the Ministry, mujahideen, and diplomats.
After laying a wreath of flowers in front of the memorial and reciting the Fatiha of the Holy Quran, a minute's silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the National Liberation Revolution.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of this ceremony, the minister said that "thanks to the Mujahideen who bore arms and fought the occupation, Algeria is free today and its people enjoy sovereignty and independence.”
In a speech delivered on the occasion, the Director General of Communication, Information, and Documentation at the Ministry, Abdelhamid Abdaoui said that the memorable date of March 19 "marked the end of a long colonial night that lasted 132 years and sounded the death knell of injustice and barbarism of the aggressor lulled by the illusion of distorting our identity and erase our civilization, our culture, and our heritage.”
He also stressed that "the Evian negotiations showed the genius of the Algerian negotiator who knew, thanks to his perspicacity and his faith in victory, to impose himself in front of the colonizer who would not have agreed to sit, as equals, at the negotiating table without the firmness of the Revolution and the faith of its leaders in the legitimate right of their people to self-determination and to impose independence.
"The oath made to the valiant martyrs requires transmitting this honorable legacy to the rising generations," he said.
That is why "the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has shown special interest in the treatment of the file of memory and history," he affirmed.
The new version of the websites of Algeria’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad was launched on this occasion.
