Algerian-Swiss parliamentary friendship group set up in Algiers
ALGIERS- The Algerian-Swiss parliamentary friendship group was set up Monday at the People’s National Assembly (Parliament’s Lower House), as part of the strengthening of the bilateral relations and activation of the parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.
The deputy speaker of the People’s National Assembly Moundir Bouden chaired the installation ceremony in the presence of the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Saadallah Kahal and Switzerland’s ambassador to Algeria Pierre-Yves Fux.
On this occasion, Bouden reviewed “the depth of the historical relations between Algeria and Switzerland,” pointing out that these relations “have been qualitative and excellent since the national liberation war which was supported by Switzerland, by ensuring notably the conditions conducive to the holding of Evian negotiations between the provisional government of Algeria and the French government, and this was a decisive turning point in the history of our country.”
The deputy speaker of the Parliament’s Lower House welcomed “the strategy of the Swiss Federal Council 2021-2024 for the Middle East and Africa to implement an inclusive cooperation programme in the fields of peace, security, human rights, immigration, sustainable development and health,” as well as “the mutual support of the international candidacies at the level international bodies and organizations.”
For his part, Switzerland’s ambassador hailed “the deep historical relations between Algeria and Switzerland,” reaffirming the importance of working for “the strengthening of the bilateral relations at all levels in the best interests of the two friendly countries.”
